About Alex

A native of the Great Lakes, Alex Palmer spent his childhood within the Lake Erie watershed on the Allegheny Plateau in the eastern half of Cleveland, Ohio, where he developed a fascination for urban natural areas. He considers himself an “urban naturalist" and has over 10 years of experience in the natural resource management and environmental education professions across the Great Lakes and eastern United States.   He currently resides with his husband in Chicago, Illinois, and enjoys learning about different natural ecosystems, engaging in outdoor recreation, wildlife observation, traveling, and planting native wildflowers in his neighborhood community garden.

Alex Palmer received his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. He is also pursuing a continuing education certificate in Spanish Language from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education.  Alex is a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation and is a certified arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture.  Alex currently serves the Forest Preserves of Cook County as a full-time nature center interpretive naturalist.
